Dear Colleague

INVITATION TO A STRATEGIC CONVERSATION: “THE GENDER SECTOR: WHERE ARE WE AND WHERE TO NEXT?”

Current developments in Southern Africa pose specific challenges to organisations working in the gender sector. GETNET is in a process of redefining itself by asking: “What kind of institution are we within the current political and gender context of South Africa? How do we remain relevant in terms of gender politics for a further 10 years?”

In reflecting on these contextual issues and our responses to them, GETNET realises that it needs to be conscious of similar debates within sister organisations in the sector. We are keen to take stock of whether GETNET has developed and is responsive to the evolving needs of Southern Africa. The outcomes of this discussion forum will inform GETNET’s future role in the region.

GETNET invites organisations working in gender and related sectors to an evening of networking and dialogue around the contextual issues facing the Southern African development community in general and South Africa in particular. GETNET will share our experiences, practice and challenges in delivering gender mainstreaming interventions in the current context. We invite you to share your organisational experiences and challenges and contribute to the discussion on GETNET’s future role.
